Make or break Transfer Window for Arsenal
It has been a season to forget for Arsenal fans but the rejuvenated side were able to salvage it with a cup win. Considering the turmoil the club was in pre Mikel it was really difficult to have little or any optimism. The impact of the cup win can not be underestimated nor should it paper over the cracks that are still there with the current squad. After the FA cup win one could get the sense that Arsenal had turned a corner........but will arsenal make the necessary changes needed in this window.....or will the mistakes of 2017 repeat??
If things Couldn't get more ''arsenal' Raul Sanhelli parted ways with the club just 14 days into the transfer window. There's more to that story but my focus is on the next 2 months of an important window. Here are his last words for the club ...make of it what you will.
Fans and pundits alike for years have expressed the need for arsenal to sort out the defense . It is an open secret that the club should strengthen albeit they already have 7 senior CBs at the club. Exact definition of quantity with no quality. Priority target in defense seems like Lille CB Gabriel Magalheas. The 22 year old Brazilian had a good season that seems to have attracted numerous clubs including the Arsenal. It's reported that It's a two way battle between arsenal and Napoli with United and Everton having dropped out of the race . We all know how that goes.
Also with the already congested CB position it is clear that there needs to be outgoings in that area. Names like Chambers, Holding, Mustafi , Sokratis and Kolasinac have been deemed to be on the market. With interest also shown in David Luiz, Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland Niles I wouldn't rule out a massive overhaul in that department. The pandemic has really affected the market but for the worst arsenal side -statistically- in 25yrs ... change is a must.
In midfield the problem has been the same since club legend Patrick Viera left . A commanding Presence in midfield who can disrupt opposition play . The name being touted around is Atletico's Thomas Partey. He would certainly be an upgrade on our current Midfielders but it remains to be seen if we can pull it off.
Another Central midfielder is important as well as an attacking midfielder. It was highly publicized that arsenal were 16th in the premier league in chances created. Ironic since historically arsenal have always been a team that fashions out lots of opportunities.Danny Ceballos is an interesting case as Real Madrid have summoned him back for preseason with getting a fee for him in mind.Lyon talented midfielder Houssem Aouar has also been linked with Edu reportedly put a bid for him.
Outgoings seem inevitable in midfield ...like most positions to be honest. Matteo Guendouzi , Lucas Torreira & Mohammed Elneny seem like the most likely departures. Mesut Ozil has clearly stated he won't be forced outside the club so I would expecting him to stay for his last year.
In attack arsenal has already made one signing. Willian form Chelsea on a free transfer. It's not the mega signing that most arsenal fans were expecting but if you look closely it's a really good signing for arsenal. I will not try to convince anyone but arteta's words explain it all. Arteta on what he likes in Willian:
"It is many of his qualities. One is his ability to play in those tight spaces, his ability to play people through, to unlock, to drive with the ball and create overloads, he is a goal threat as well both in open play and with set piece." It may be that Arteta sees Willian as the no 10 in his team only time will tell.
In terms of departures the most likely candidate would be Alex Lacazette. With top scorer Peirre-Emerick-Aubameyang set to sign a new 3 year contract and Arteta stating that he wants to build the team around him it seems laca's departure is likely. With much needed cash to invest Lacazette is one of few sellable assets at arsenal...with rumours that Juventus are interested.
It's clearly a make or break Summer transfer window for arsenal. With that said will the cash gap between arsenal and its competitors hurt us ...or will the Kroenkes back Arteta in the window only time will tell. But I fully expect a massive overhaul at the club....my guess is we will see up to 5 incomings at arsenal and most likely more outgoings . But with Edu and arteta at the wheel better days seem ahead.
Interesting summer ahead Cheers :)
